Monday 9th August 2004

New QuayAs we were on one of the moorings in the middle of the harbour it was a matter of waiting for the tide before we could be on our way.

Finally by midday we were able to move off the mooring and out through the channel into the main harbour. Although the wind all morning had been blowing a force 4 or 5 from the Southeast (as forecast) it was at this moment it completely disappeared. With Aberystwyth 40 miles to the north-east and the wind now blowing a good force zero it was going to be a long motor – again!

There was no point in even putting any sails up, but I decided that we would motor until we got wind and get as close as possible to Aberystwyth.

By 16:00 I had given up on any more than 3 knots of wind and decided to stop the engine (I had hear enough of it) to slowly sail into New Quay. In fact the only wind we had was blowing from the north, which slightly contradicted the forecast of 15 knots from the south!

New Quay was very busy and there was no chance of picking up any of the ten visitor moorings (I later found out there was only one anyway) so I set the anchor 300m off the beach and settled down for the night. New Quay is a small seaside village about the size of St Ives. It appeared that I had arrived in the middle of a local festival and the sea front was covered in people watching the children taking part in sporting event.

Only notable event for the night was that I managed to finally find where I had stowed the Pasta Sauce and was able to adjust my normally variable formula for Pasta Sauce.
