Berthing in Aberdeen is an interesting experience, dominated by the oil industry Silverwind mast was about level with the decks of most of the other vessels in the harbour.
I soon found my way around the city and spent most of Tuesday taking advantage of the library’s heating while reading a book.
On Wednesday I explored the local museum, which among other things charts the history of the North Sea oil industry. With my newly found knowledge of North Sea rig construction I went back to try and fix the persistent leak in Silverwind just above my bunk. By this point I was starting to see the advantage of the harbours berthing fees. They aim to discourage yachts by charging £17 for the first five nights. This is expensive if you stay one night but after three or four nights it starts to become quite good value!
