Penzance Sailing Club

Sunday 24th – Monday 25th October 2004

DunbarThe cycle of bad, bad and then a little good weather continued to keep us in port but on this occasion we had a good reason to be here. When we had originally bought Silverwind in Edinburgh it had “Dunbar” written on the stern. We only removed it because it once confused the harbourmaster in Penzance!

I hoped to find out some of the history of the boat. As it was no one had ever seen Silverwind before! They should know there are not that many boats in Dunbar. I can only assume that someone once owned her with a connection to the town.

One surprise on Sunday morning was a bubbling sound on the hull that made it sound like we were sinking. After some investigation it turned out to be the local seals that although they have no names live in the harbour.

In my continuing quest to visit every museum on the east coast I found myself in the John Muir Museum in the house were he was born. The building was packed with displays charting the history of this famous American conservationist. It is notable that the trust in his name (The John Muir Trust) now owns the peak of Ben Nevis, which I was on only a month ago
