Tuesday 31st August – Wednesday 1st September 2004

Lake DistrictThe wind on Tuesday morning, although forecast, was not perfect – light winds from the northwest. When you are trying to go northwest it does not inspire you to get out of bed! This was the story for Wednesday as well.

As it was this was perfect timing as with mum and dad on holiday it was a good chance to catch up with them.

Tuesday saw us driving up to Derwent Water and walking around the hills to the south of the lake in blazing sunshine. It was a surprisingly tough walk (after Scarfell Pike) but we were rewarded with high-level views over Derwent Water after taking a wrong turning!

We returned to the campervan to rest after a long day. On picking me up on Wednesday morning we were promised by mum a nice easy walk around a lake. Today’s choice was Ennerdale only a few miles outside Whitehaven (it was on the way back to Whitehaven we discovered it to be so close as dad decided to take the 20 mile route along the counties smallest lanes in the morning!).

Again it was a very pleasant day and this time all on the flat! After a second fish and chip tea (I think mum wanted to feed me up) I said my good buys in preparation to leave Whitehaven on Thursday for Port William.
